Can You Pray for a Specific Man to be Your Husband?

Is there a special man that has taken a liking to you? As you think about settling down and getting married someday, you may think this man is a potential future husband. How do you pray to God about this? Can You Pray for a Specific Man to be Your Husband?

Praying for a specific man to be your husband isn’t bad unless that man is married or taken by someone else. We are not to covet someone else’s husband or partner (see Exodus 20:17), for it leads to sin. God prefers when we are specific in our prayers so that He can answer us. When God answers our prayers, we give Him all the glory and praise He is due, as only He can answer our prayer requests in such detail. 

How do you pray to God for a specific man to be your husband? You can pray in this manner:

Heavenly Father, I lift to You (name of this man). As you know that my heart is preparing for marriage in the future, I surrender this man to You, as he has captured my heart. If it is Your will, this is the man I’d like to marry in the future. However, if he isn’t for me, take away all these feelings and affections I have for him. I trust You above all, for I know that Your perfect will is my best plan. I bless him and speak Christ’s destiny and purpose in his life, in Jesus’ name. Amen.

As a Christian woman, there are many important things to consider when choosing a future partner for marriage. After all, marriage is for a lifetime, and you don’t want your marriage to be the enemy’s favorite target battlefield because of major differences, such as your faith. It is important to consider that this man must love the Lord and have a relationship with Him; otherwise, it can be challenging, especially in fulfilling your calling and advancing the Kingdom of God. You don’t want him to be a hindrance, especially when his principles, views, and perspectives are not aligned with the Words of God.

As you fervently pray for this specific man, you should also sow prayers to his spirit. Declare salvation (if he doesn’t yet know the Lord), name his identity and destiny in Christ, his calling, and his relationship with the Lord. Speak life, pray the Scriptures, get to know him, and make a friendship with the Lord as the foundation of your relationship.

Is it okay to pray for a specific man that you like?   

Choosing your marriage partner is an important decision to make. You must pray about it fervently and fast for it as you pray for a specific man you are growing to care for.

As mentioned earlier, praying for a specific man you like is okay, so long as he is single, available and unmarried. God doesn’t mind us praying for specific things, not just future spouses, but even specific jobs, salary amounts, house locations, and even the specific gender of our unborn child.

In the end, it is still God’s will that will prevail. Being able to pray specifically is our privilege and gift of free will as His children. He doesn’t control whom we love, what profession to take, or which job to apply for. After all, God wants us to be mature believers responsible for our choices and actions. 

As you pray for your future specific partner, consider the earlier mentioned factors, and keep praying for this man. Nothing is impossible with the Lord, and if it is His will, let His will be done.

Will God answer my prayer for a specific man to love me back?

Philippians 4:6 says, Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. God wants to know our requests, whatever they may be. As for your case, you want a specific man to be your husband and the desire for him to love you back.

As you pray to God for this man to love you back, know that prayers are powerful because our God is almighty. He hears our prayers when it pleases Him and answers us in the most profound ways.

However, know that love is something that God doesn’t control. He doesn’t control our hearts, nor how it functions in love and hate. He gave us the free will to love, hate, and choose. Even in our relationship with Him, He doesn’t force us to love Him back, even if He gave everything for us. He waits for us patiently until our hearts are ready to love Him back.

As you pray for this man, God can draw this person to you if it is His will. Only then can you truly know if love is present in your relationship and friendship. Such love is for you both to work out as you develop a friendship and get to know each other.

So, rather than praying for this man to love you in return, you can pray and declare God’s will for his life. That is a sign of true love on your part. When you pray for someone to walk in and receive all of God’s best for them, somehow it returns to you. And who knows, this man may love you someday in God’s perfect time.

As for now, wait patiently for the Lord and keep praying for him. Focus on your relationship with God and love the Lord with all your heart above anyone else.
