Prayer For My Husband To Come Out Of The Darkness

In Romans 3:23, it is made clear that all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. Hence, we must face the consequences of sin through eternal condemnation. However, Jesus came to save us. He redeemed us through His finished work on the Cross and took us from darkness to light. If your husband is an unbeliever, don’t hesitate to ask God for help. Here is a prayer that you can utter for your spouse so that he will encounter Jesus and receive Him as his Lord and Savior:

Almighty God, have mercy on my husband. Help him come out of the darkness and live in the light. Let him supernaturally encounter You so that he may have hope, peace, and salvation. Break the yoke of sin that enslaves him. I declare freedom in his life, in Jesus’ name! Amen. 

How to pray when your husband is in darkness?

Although your husband is in darkness, you should never lose hope. Remember, Jesus came to set the captives free (Luke 4:18-19). This includes the people who remain unsaved and entangled in sin. Besides sharing the Word of God with your spouse, you should also pray for him. Below are some prayers to help your spouse:

1. Pray for Deliverance

Your husband may suffer from an addiction, or wrong beliefs may blind him. Instead of blaming him, remember that he is not your enemy. We are battling against principalities and evil spiritual forces (Eph. 6:12), so your best weapon is prayer. Declare deliverance to your spouse through this prayer:

Most High God, I pray for deliverance for my husband. I destroy the bondage of the enemy, in Jesus’ name! I declare freedom in his life. Be his light, and let him come out of the darkness, Lord. Give him the strength to overcome any and all sins that entangle him. I put my trust in You, Lord. For this, I pray. Amen. 

2. Pray for Guidance 

Without God’s guidance, we will be lost in the darkness. He is the One who can lead and direct our steps (Ps. 37:23-24). Therefore, we must ask Him for guidance. If your husband is confused, you should seek God’s help. The Lord can reveal the truth and guide him to the right path. Here is a prayer for guidance:

Faithful God, I pray for guidance for my husband. Help him hear Your voice and submit to Your will. Let the truth overcome the darkness in his life. Please let your Holy Spirit lead the way so that he can come to You. Help him remember Your Word. Remind him how You love Him. All the glory belongs to You, Lord. Amen.

3. Pray for Hope

Hopelessness causes people to walk in darkness. We should not put our hope in temporary and changing things. Jesus Christ is our only Living Hope (1 Tim. 4:10). No matter what we are going through, He can fill our hearts with peace and joy. If your spouse is experiencing hopelessness, below is a prayer that can help him:

My God, please help bring hope to my husband. Show him Your purpose for his life and how much You love him. May he see Your beauty every day so that his heart will be filled with gratitude. Whenever he feels hopeless, remind him of Your promises. Let Your presence be upon him, bringing peace and joy. Amen. 

4. Pray for Perseverance 

Our adversities may cause us to feel hopeless. Instead of asking God for help, we may withdraw and stay in the darkness. Remember, we must persevere, even during the hardest trials. Although we have troubles in this world, Jesus already overcame the world (John 16:33). If your husband wants to quit, ask God to help him persevere:

Our Savior, help my husband persevere in his troubles. Please give him the strength to overcome all the problems he is facing now. Remind him of Your promises so that he can endure. Cover him with peace that surpasses understanding. May his hope rest in You alone, Lord. You are our strong tower. Thank You for Your goodness, Lord. Amen. 

5. Pray for Holiness

Sin results in guilt and condemnation, keeping us away from the light. If your husband struggles with sin, don’t hesitate to pray for him. The Lord can deliver him from the darkness and lead him to a life of holiness. Without holiness, it is impossible to see God (Heb. 12:14). Below is a powerful way to pray for holiness in your husband’s life:

Abba Father, I pray for holiness in my husband’s daily life. Let him be holy, just as You are holy. Remind him of Your love and forgiveness. I renounce the condemnation and guilt, in Jesus’ name! Let the Holy Spirit be his teacher so that he may walk according to Your will. Grant him a pure heart that desires holiness, God. All the honor belongs to You. Amen.

6. Pray against temptation 

God reminds us to submit to Him and resist temptation. Although temptations look desirable, they only lead to death and destruction (Prov. 14:12). Those who fall into temptation may live a life of condemnation and darkness. You can help your husband resist temptation by asking for God’s protection and guidance:

Almighty God, please help my husband resist all the temptations in his life. Give him the wisdom to run away from all the temptation, just as Joseph did when he was seduced by Potiphar’s wife (Gen. 39). I rebuke the enemy’s evil schemes against him, in Jesus’ name! Let him walk according to Your will. I praise You for Your abundant grace, Lord. Amen. 

7. Pray for salvation 

Our life would be empty and dark if Jesus Christ was not our Lord and Savior. He died on the Cross so that we could have eternal life (John 3:16). By putting our faith in Him, we are saved from eternal damnation. If your husband is not yet saved, you should intercede for him. The greatest gift he can ever receive is to meet his Savior and spend eternity with Him. Utter this prayer to intercede for your husband:

Lord Jesus, I pray for salvation in the life of my husband. Forgive all his wrongdoings and help him repent. Let him encounter You in a supernatural way so that he understands how much You love and long for him. Accept him into Your kingdom, Lord. Touch his heart and reveal to Him what You did on the Cross. For this, I pray. Amen.

If your husband is spending his life in darkness, ask God for help. With His grace and mercy, He can help Your husband escape the darkness. Remember, He can set the captives free. If your husband hasn’t accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior, intercede for him. Indeed, he will encounter the Lord and finally receive His everlasting love (Jer. 31:3).
