Prayer For My Husband Who Is A Pastor

Serving our Most High God is a great privilege for which we should be thankful. However, it comes with challenges and persecution. Hence, praying for your husband who is a pastor is crucial. You should lay all your petitions at the feet of the Lord as you rest in His presence (Phil. 4:6). Below is a prayer for your husband who is a pastor:

Abba Father, thank You for calling my husband to be a pastor. I pray that You grant him strength every day, especially when he is facing trials and adversity. Guide him in all of his ways and give him wisdom. I declare protection over his mind, body, and soul. For this, I pray. Amen. 

How to pray for a Pastor Husband

We must remember that we are not battling against flesh and blood but against the principalities and the rulers of darkness (Eph. 6:12 – For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.). Our powerful weapon against these evil spiritual forces is prayer. As you pray for your pastor husband, declare God’s Word. Claim the victory that Jesus has already won on the Cross. Below are some prayers that can help you:

1. Pray for strength

A pastor may get weary because of the challenges he faces every day. As an overseer, he must pay close attention to the flock (Acts 20:28 – Keep watch over yourselves and all the flock of which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers. Be shepherds of the church of God,[a] which he bought with his own blood.). You must ask God to give your spouse strength every day so that he will have the strength to withstand all the inevitable trials. Declare strength for your husband through this prayer:

Dear Lord, renew my husband’s strength every day. Provide rest for his weary soul, mind, and body. I renounce the heaviness in his soul and the sickness in his body, in Jesus’ name! Cover him with Your Precious Blood from his head to his toes, Lord Jesus. Let the heavenly angels protect him daily. Thank You for Your faithfulness, Lord. Amen. 

2. Pray for humility

To hear the voice of God, we must fully surrender our lives to Him. However, it takes humility to submit to God’s authority and sovereignty. As servants of God, we must please Him alone. We should not seek the praises of men (John 12:42-43). Ask God to grant humility to your husband through this prayer:

Almighty God, help my husband surrender his life to You daily and submit to Your will and sovereignty. When pride swells in his heart, remind him that without You he is nothing. Help him seek more of Your approval rather than the praises of men. I renounce arrogance, pride, and self-righteousness in his life, in Jesus’ name! Amen.

3. Pray for wisdom

Pastors must be equipped with wisdom that comes from the Lord. They must make sound decisions as they lead the church. Furthermore, God uses their lives to give godly counsel to troubled Christians. The Lord encourages us to ask Him for wisdom, especially if we are lacking it (Jm. 1:5 – If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.). Utter this prayer and ask the Lord to grant wisdom to your pastor husband:

Heavenly Father, I praise You for Your goodness and faithfulness in our lives. As my husband submits to Your will, grant him heavenly wisdom. Use his mouth to speak blessings to those around him. Teach him to give godly advice to those who are troubled, confused, and brokenhearted. I rebuke the confusion and lies that the enemy is throwing at him, in Jesus’ name! Amen.

4. Pray for discernment

A discerning heart will protect us from the evil schemes of the enemy. As a pastor, it is vital that your husband can determine good from evil. Some things may come to the church that seem good, but they will only lead to destruction (Prov. 14:12). By spending time with God, we will have the ability to discern. Below is a prayer to ask God to grant your spouse a discerning heart

Father in heaven, grant my spouse a discerning heart so that he will be able to distinguish good from evil. Open his spiritual eyes so that he may see the truth. Reveal to him the intention of those people around him. Protect him against the evil plans of the enemy. I renounce deception and confusion, in Jesus’ name! Let Your Word be his light, Father. All the glory belongs to You alone. Amen.

5. Pray against temptation

The Bible warns us against temptation since anyone may fall into it. The best way to win over the devil is to submit to the Lord and resist it (Jm. 4:7). You must also intercede for your husband and renounce any evil schemes of the enemy in his life. If you don’t know how to rebuke temptation in your husband’s life, below is a prayer that can help:

Dear God, help my spouse submit to You and resist the temptations of the enemy. Guide his steps and lead him on the path of righteousness and holiness. Let the Holy Spirit reign over his life. As You have promised, Lord, no weapon formed against us shall prosper. I renounce shame, guilt, and condemnation. I claim victory in my husband’s life. Amen.

6. Pray for compassion

Our Great Shepherd shows mercy to the sheep, even to the lost ones. He laid down His life for us so that we may have salvation (John 10:11). Compassion is vital for pastors so that they can tend to God’s people with love and mercy. Ask God to grant your spouse a compassionate heart through this prayer:

Dear Lord and Savior, grant my husband a compassionate heart. Help him look at other people with mercy and compassion. Teach him to love and understand them as You have loved them. Let his heart be full of love, mercy, and compassion for the lost. May Your love continually flow in his heart so that he may share Your love with others. For this, I pray. Amen. 

7. Pray for holiness

As servants of God, pastors must walk in holiness. This can only happen if we surrender our lives to the Lord. The Holy Spirit will guide our paths and teach us His ways. Without holiness, we cannot see God (Heb. 12:14). You can also ask the Lord to keep your husband holy with the help of this prayer:

Father in heaven, thank You for your grace and mercy toward my husband. I pray that You will continually reign in His life. Let the Holy Spirit teach him Your ways. May he be as holy as You are holy, Father. I renounce the ungodly thoughts in his mind, in Jesus’ name! Continually set him apart for Your will and purpose, Father. All the glory and honor belong to You alone. Amen. 

8. Pray for God’s anointing

Whatever ministry God has entrusted to your husband, he needs God’s anointing. Only by the power of God can there be transformation. The Lord doesn’t want us to depend on our strengths, eloquence, and capabilities. He wants us to rely on Him alone (Zech. 4:6). Ask God to increase the anointing in your husband’s life and his dependence on the Spirit of God:

Heavenly Father, I pray for my pastor husband. Increase the anointing in his life and teach him to be fully dependent on the Holy Spirit. Remind him that he is only Your vessel. As he ministers to the people, help him give You all the glory and honor. Let there be courage, joy, and peace in his heart as he depends on You alone. Amen. 

Conclusion

Leading the church is a noble task (1 Tim. 3:1) but challenging. Hence, you must always pray for your husband’s protection. The Lord will equip him with wisdom and discernment as you pray for him. Whenever he is weary, God’s strength will be available for him. He will keep him safe from the enemy’s evil schemes and increase the anointing in his life.
