Prayer For My Husband To Understand Me

Misunderstanding is one of the reasons a husband and wife argue. Besides good communication, we must have the compassion to understand others (1 Pet. 3:8), especially our partners. If your husband misunderstands you most of the time, ask God for help, as He can transform your husband’s heart and mind. Here is a prayer that can help your spouse understand you:

Abba Father, let compassion and mercy come upon my husband’s heart. May he understand the pain that I am going through today. Help me communicate to him what is inside my heart. Help our marriage be a place of comfort and trust. I renounce condemnation, guilt, and shame, in Jesus’ name! Amen. 

How to pay for your husband to understand you?

You should never be bitter towards your husband when he fails to understand you. Instead of arguing with him, surrender everything at the Lord’s feet. As the Wonderful Counselor (Is. 9:6), He can restore mercy and compassion in your marriage. If you don’t know how your spouse can better understand you, here are some prayers that can help:

1. Pray for understanding

Because we are limited, there are times when we fail to understand the people we love. We find some of their actions irrational without knowing where they are coming from. The good news is that our God understands us. He can see what is in our hearts (Ps. 44:21 – Shall not God search this out? for he knoweth the secrets of the heart.). If there is a lack of understanding in your marriage, ask for God’s help through this prayer:

Heavenly Father, please give my husband a heart and mind that understands the people around him and me. Please renew his thoughts so that he may think only what is pure and true. I renounce the prejudice, lies, and confusion the enemy puts in him, in Jesus’ name! May he see my situation to better understand where I am coming from. For this, I pray. Amen. 

2. Pray for compassion

The Lord reminds us to be compassionate towards one another (Eph. 4:32 – And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you.). Instead of focusing on ourselves, we must bear each other’s burdens. We can truly help others by being compassionate towards them. We may lack compassion towards others if we are too self-centered. If your husband doesn’t have compassion, here is a prayer you can utter for him:

Dear God, grant my husband a compassionate heart like yours. May he show love and mercy to the oppressed. Instead of focusing on himself too much, teach my husband to care for others, as You have cared for him. Give him the desire to help those around him. Let the Holy Spirit guide and lead him to love others. Thank You for Your goodness and faithfulness. Amen!

3. Pray for discernment

Discernment allows us to understand what is from God and what is from the enemy (Heb. 5:14 – But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.). As the head of the family, a husband must have a discerning heart to protect his family. We will discern more if we spend more time with the Lord. He will speak to our hearts and guide us in our every decision. He can also help your spouse understand you more. Ask God to grant your spouse a discerning heart through this prayer:

Father in Heaven, give my husband a discerning heart to help him understand the people around him. Open his spiritual eyes to distinguish the good from the evil. Grant him the desire to spend more time with You and listen to Your voice. Teach him how to surrender to Your will. Don’t let him fall into confusion, Lord. All the glory belongs to You, Father. Amen!

4. Pray against callousness 

A person with a calloused heart cannot sympathize with other people. However, once the love of God flows in our hearts, we will be able to be merciful, loving, and understanding to those around us. If your husband has a calloused heart, ask God to replace his heart of stone with one of flesh (Ezek. 36:26). If you don’t know how here is a prayer you can declare:

Lord Jesus, You are the King of kings. Touch the heart of my husband and break its callousness. Replace his heart of stone with one of flesh so that he may learn to love and sympathize. Help him have a heart like Yours. Let the Holy Spirit fill and move in his life. I rebuke the unbelief and pride in his heart, in Jesus’ name! Let love and humility be upon him. Amen.

5. Pray against selfishness

Our selfish desires and ambitions will readily prevent us from understanding others. It can also negatively affect the relationship between a wife and husband. The Lord instructs us to love others as we love ourselves (Matt. 22:39). If selfishness is why your husband cannot understand you, you should not lose hope. God can transform his heart through this prayer:

Most High God, transform my husband and make his heart like Yours. Teach him to love others as he loves himself. Pour Your love into his heart so that he may know what selflessness is. I renounce selfishness, pride, and fear in his life, in Jesus’ name! Open his eyes and mind so that he may understand the people around him. For this, I pray. Amen. 

6. Pray for patience 

Our impatience may lead us to misunderstand the people around us. It also affects how we communicate with others, leading to arguments (Prov. 15:18). If your husband is impatient, you should never lose hope. The Lord can change him by teaching him His ways. Below is a prayer to ask for greater patience for and with your spouse:

Dear God, grant my spouse patience, especially when dealing with the people around him. Make him a person who has the willingness to wait and understand others. Remind him how you have been patient with him. Grant him joy and peace as he surrenders his life to You. All the glory and honor belong to You, Lord. Amen.

It takes understanding for a husband and wife to truly enjoy their marriage. Without understanding, there will be unresolved conflicts and arguments. If you and your husband misunderstand each other, don’t hesitate to ask God for help. He will restore your marriage and return all that the enemy has stolen (John 10:10).
