Prayer for Husband to Go to Church

Going to church plays a vital role in our spiritual growth. The church is not a place, but the Bible defines it as the body of Christ (Rom. 12:5). It is composed of imperfect people who accept the perfection of God’s love through Jesus Christ. If you want to encourage your husband to go to church, here is a prayer to offer:

Abba Father, touch my husband’s heart and reveal to him the beauty of the body of Christ. Silence all the lies and accusations of the enemy against Your church, in Jesus’ Name! By Your grace and mercy, he will accept Your invitation to fellowship with You and Your children. For this, I pray, Amen.

If your husband is an unbeliever, you shouldn’t give up on him—no matter what. The best gift you could ever give him is the Lord Jesus Christ. If he is discouraged from going to church, here are some things you can do to convince him to join the fellowship:

Let your life be a living epistle

If your husband is not reading the Bible, he is undoubtedly reading your life. As children of God, our lives are supposed to be living epistles. This means that the Word of God is truly alive in us (2 Cor. 3:2-3)! Do our words glorify the Lord? Do our actions reflect God’s love, grace, and mercy? Being a living epistle is not what we do but what God does through us.

As you deepen your relationship with God, He will transform you every day. You don’t have to try to change yourself, but you should let God change you. Your husband will go with you to church one day because he has seen Jesus in you.

Remind your husband about the goodness of God

There are innumerable ways that God shows His goodness in our lives. Even the breath we breathe and the life we live come from Him! There is no reason why we should not praise and worship Him. One of the ways to encourage your husband to go to church is to remind him about God’s goodness in his life and in your family. 

As a reminder, you should never nag your spouse about going to church because it will only end in an argument. Let your words be full of grace seasoned with salt (Col. 4:6). Instead of forcing your faith on him, speak the truth with love to your husband.

Tell your husband about God’s love

Some people don’t want to attend church because of guilt and condemnation. They see themselves as unqualified to receive God’s grace. All of us are unqualified, but Jesus gave his life for us so that we can enter heaven! By grace, we have been saved, not by our works or performance (Eph. 2:8-9). Tell your husband about the finished work of Jesus Christ for the salvation of our souls—and his.

Before Jesus ascended to heaven, He revealed how we could encourage others to remain in faith. There are different ways to help your partner spiritually, some of which are included below.

Pray together

Prayer helps us grow spiritually. As we grow in the presence of God, He gives us more revelations and instructions. He also changes our hearts as He speaks to us. If your husband is spiritually weak, invite him to pray with you. Many people want to pray, but most don’t know how or where to start. Teach your husband how he can speak to God and listen to His voice, just as you do.

Encourage your husband to read the Bible

God has given us a love letter through the Bible. It is where the best love story of all time was written. If your spouse wants to know more about who God is, then you should encourage him to read the Bible. The Word of God will show him how much the Lord loved us and what He did to save us from eternal condemnation. 

Intercede for your husband

When you intercede for your husband, you bless him by helping to carry his burden (Gal. 6:2). Cry out to God for your partner’s soul. If your husband is still unsaved,  speak the Word of God over his situation and ask for the Blood of Jesus to cover him. Break the chains that hinder your husband from totally accepting Jesus as his Savior.

Invite your husband to the church

No matter how often your husband rejects your invitation to church, never give up. Most Christians were converted because they were invited to go to church. It is an opportunity for your husband to hear God’s Word and experience His presence. Believe that your husband will be with you at church someday, praising and worshiping the Lord.

How do I pray for my husband to be saved?

As we know, Jesus is our only Living Hope (1 Peter 1:3). Other than Him, no one can save us from eternal condemnation. The same is true for your husband. He cannot go to heaven if he doesn’t receive Jesus as his Lord and Savior, but don’t lose hope! As you pray for your husband, God is also moving His hands. Below are some prayers that can help you:

Prayer for a change of heart

Callousness, pride, and unbelief are why people won’t accept Jesus as their Savior. But Ezekiel 36:26 says that God can turn a heart of stone into one of flesh. No matter how hard the heart is, God can break it and allow His love can enter. Here is a prayer for your husband’s change of heart:

Prayer for repentance

Repentance is not the act of crying to God but of changing one’s mind by turning our back on our sins. Without the presence of God, it is difficult for a person to repent on their own. However, as God touches our hearts, we can better understand how undeserving and sinful we are. If your husband is still unrepentant, utter this prayer of repentance:

Abba Father, You can see my husband’s heart and know its true condition. Touch his heart so that he may humble himself to You. Prayer for salvation

God has a way to turn your husband’s heart towards Him. Although you may see how hopeless his situation is, keep praying for his salvation. It is the best gift he could ever receive while alive in this world. Believe with all your heart that today is the day of salvation (2 Cor. 6:2). Below is a prayer of salvation for your husband:

Almighty God, I pray for the salvation of my husband. Destroy the works of the enemy in his life and open his heart to Your voice and presence. I rebuke unbelief, pride, and self-righteousness, in Jesus’ Name! I declare my husband’s salvation today. I believe with all my heart that You are doing tremendous things, Lord. Amen.
