Can Prayer Stop a Divorce?

Divorce is heartbreaking, and it’s not part of God’s original plans for marriages. However, because the hardened hearts of men led to unfaithfulness in marriage, it was permitted in such accounts. Some couples come to an agreement when one of them decides to divorce. But for others, it can be painful and require a lot of time to process. Until then, only the Lord is their hope for the restoration of their marriage and relationship with their spouse.

Prayers are a powerful way to intervene in marital problems, including divorce because we have a powerful and loving God who listens and answers prayers. It can sometimes prevent divorce because prayers of our connection to God. We align our minds and emotions to the Lord every time we connect to God.

Marriage is spiritual warfare. It is important that God is involved in every area of your marriage and your life as a husband and wife. Praying for one another, praying together, and praying individually connects you to God and protects your marriage from the enemy’s work. The more you spend time with God, and in His Word, the more you can discern His voice from your own and from the enemy.

Prayer is not the only thing that can prevent divorce from happening. Surrounding yourself with godly couples, being in fellowships that build up marriages and families, and consistently engaging in prayer and in the Word of God as a couple helps strengthen the relationship and marriage.

It is important that as a couple, you are committed to making Jesus Christ at the center of your marriage, no matter what.

Can Prayer Stop a Divorce

Divorce is something not to be taken lightly. It is a decision that affects not just your marriage but your entire family lineage. We think a single decision such as divorce will only impact you once. But people do not see that once the enemy has got a seed in you like divorce, addiction, unfaithfulness, lust, and so on, it can become a cycle that can impact the next generation. It can be passed down to your children, your children’s children, and so forth.

As your husband has decided to divorce you, you may want to consider not just praying for him but fasting for him as well. We know that the root of division such as the decision to divorce is a stronghold built in one’s mind and heart that is caused by the enemy. He is the thief who aims to steal, kill, and destroy marriages and families (see John 10:10). Sometimes, strongholds and demonic activity taking place in our lives according to the Bible’s principles can only be cast out by prayer and fasting (see Matthew 17:21).

You can ask for help from your fellow Christian friends to pray and fast with you for your husband and your marriage. I believe this is as powerful as Jesus said in Matthew 18:19, Again I say unto you, That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven. That is why it is important to be surrounded by godly and trusted friends, as they can be reliable in your times of trouble.

Know that whatever the result may be, surrender everything unto the Lord. God will never leave you or forsake you, no matter what the outcome of your marriage may be. Continuously pray for your husband and your marriage, and let God take over all things that are beyond your control in Christ Jesus.
