Intercessory Prayer for a Husband

An intercessory prayer is not only about asking the Lord to help your husband, but it is an act of holding on to God until His will has come to pass. Through God’s power, your prayer will be powerful enough to break chains and cast down strongholds. Here are things you must do to let the Holy Spirit lead you.

Invite the presence of the Holy Spirit

Prayer is powerful, not because it is lengthy or eloquent, but because the Holy Spirit is with us (1 Cor. 4:20). He affirms the Word of God, bringing freedom to captives and healing the sick. Submit to the Lord

If we want to see God fulfill His will, we must submit to Him first. Our fleshly desires include enmity, impurity, strife, and many more (Gal. 5:19-21). A prayer that comes from the flesh is focused on one’s self. We may be praying for our husbands but not doing so according to the will of God. Thus, the best way to pray is to submit to the Lord and pray according to His desire. As we submit to His will, the Holy Spirit will lead us. Here is a prayer we can submit to the Lord:

Father in heaven, grant me a humble and obedient heart. I submit to Your will. Let the Holy Spirit lead me as I pray for my husband. I lay down all of my selfishness and self-interest at Your feet. Teach me to pray according to Your heart’s desire. Whatever You want for my husband, let it be done. I praise You, Father. Amen.

Ask the Holy Spirit to guide you

Although you share intimacy with your husband, there are things in his life that only God knows. The Holy Spirit will guide you by revealing what your husband is going through. As a reminder, every revelation that comes from the Spirit of God is aligned with His Word (1 John 4:1). Below is a prayer to ask the Holy Spirit to guide you:

Holy Spirit, I ask for Your guidance as I intercede for my husband. Open my heart for Your fresh revelations. Place upon my heart what he needs today and the burden he carries alone. Reveal the enemy’s evil schemes against him so that I can renounce them through this prayer. Thank You for Your presence, Almighty God. Amen. 

Prepare the place for a spiritual battle

The enemy will try to distract you, so you must prepare yourself for a spiritual battle. Declare the blood of Jesus to cover you and ask for the presence of the Holy Spirit to be with you. Dear Lord, I ask for the blood of Jesus to cover this room. I renounce distractions and evil schemes from the enemy, in the mighty Name of Jesus! Let the presence of the Holy Spirit dwell in this place, bringing power and hope. Let my mind and heart focus only on You as I lay my petitions before you and intercede for my husband. For this, I pray. Amen.

Ask the Lord to search your heart

Before you intercede for your husband, ask God to search your heart. Do you have any unforgiveness, anger, or bitterness toward your husband? Ask the Holy Spirit to help you forgive and let go (Eph. 4:32). Once your heart is cleared of these things, the Holy Spirit will lead you and fill your heart with great love for your husband. Here is a prayer to ask God to search your heart:

Abba Father, search my heart today. Reveal to me its true condition. If there is any bitterness, unforgiveness, or pretension, help me identify these things and let them go. Grant me a pure heart and fill it with love. Teach me to love my husband as You have loved me. Let the Holy Spirit lead me in prayer today. Amen.
