Psalm 84:10, For a day in thy courts is better than a thousand. Based on this verse How Can My Husband Stay Closer To God?

To be in the presence of God is the most satisfying thing believers can ever have as new creations in Christ. When we are close to the heart of God, our lives are as vibrant as the newly painted sky in the morning and as peaceful as the sun sets in the evening. As a wife who has experienced this, you want your husband to taste the Lord’s presence, which leaves you with the question, “How?”

For your husband to stay closer to God, he must choose to do so and desire God’s presence out of the willingness and sincerity of his heart.

God is love. And Love cannot be forced. Most of the time, God waits patiently for our hearts to be ready to finally respond to His great love for us. As for your husband. 1 John 4:19 says, We love Him because He first loved us. We can only love God back,  be so into His presence, and want to stay close to Him at all times when we realize how much He loves us.

Your husband must realize and understand how wide, how long, how high, and how deep God’s love is for him (see Ephesians 3:18). The good news is you can always pray for your husband and declare words of life and the Word of God so that he may come to know the Lord and desire to stay closer to God. For instance, you can declare Ephesians 3:18:

In Jesus’ name, my husband knows how much God loves him. He is able to comprehend how wide, how long, how high, and how deep God’s love is for him. He desires to stay closer to God at all times. I declare spiritual thirst and hunger to come upon my husband in Christ Jesus. Amen.

Think about the days when you were hesitant to come close to God. What did you do back then? What helped you and motivated you to pursue God more and stay closer to Him more? As you answer these questions, the Holy Spirit will give you ideas on how you can become God’s instrument to bring your husband closer to God.

How can I help my husband to desire God more?

As mentioned earlier, we can only desire God back if we truly realize and understand how much He loves us. To help your husband to desire God, you can bring him the same teachings that you first learned about the love of God and realize how much the Lord loves you. Sometimes, it also helps to ask him questions that point toward God’s goodness and faithfulness in your free talk moment, such as, “What was the thing that God did in your life that you were so thankful for?” As he sets his mind on the good things God has done in his life, it causes a stir in his heart to know God more.

Moreover, you can also listen to sermons or preachings online about the Father’s love together with your husband. If he is too busy to sit down with you, you can play it in the background and let the Word of God simply minister to him as the preacher does what he needs to do. Ask the Holy Spirit to give you creative ways to reach your husband when he seems to have no time for these kinds of things. Otherwise, you can set aside quality time in a time and setting where you both can relax and share God’s word, particularly how much God loves the world.

You can also share with him God’s doings in your personal life. You can tell him specifically how God has touched your life, who you were before Him, and who you have become after. Listening to someone’s testimony also empowers and stirs up spiritual hunger in your life. It also causes you to think about God’s doings in your life, making your mind suddenly fixed on Him.

For us to stay closer to God, we must think about heavenly things, talk about heavenly things, and meditate on heavenly things. As you become a spiritual influence on your husband, you can help him stay closer to God by drawing him more on spiritual things, causing him to think more about God’s goodness and speak more about His love.

May the Holy Spirit empower you and give you the grace to help your husband know more about God, His great love and faithfulness, and cause him to stay closer to God each day in Jesus’ name. Your life is such a great blessing, and may you radically transform the one your soul loves.
