God, the God of love, has designed husbands and wives to be joined in marriage. Though there may be instances where a wife or husband makes mistakes that offend or hurt the other, there is still hope for them to stay married, so long as both agree to recommit themselves to the marital relationship. 5 Ways to pray for my husband to return

Whenever you need the guidance of God, you can come to Him in prayer. Praying for your husband’s return can move the hand of God to work and bring your husband back to you. Here are some ways you can pray for your spouse to return:

1. Pray for wisdom

We read in 2 Chronicles 1:7-10 (NIV) how God gave wisdom to King Solomon, the newly appointed king of Israel. He lacked knowledge about his duties and responsibilities. When King Solomon was asked by God for whatever he wanted, he requested that God give him wisdom. Ask God to guide your husband and for him to make wise decisions in all of his words, actions, and behaviors. Pray to God for your spouse to follow the guidance of the Spirit and come back to you. You may say this prayer:

Dear God,

You are omniscient. You know everything that is happening in our lives and in my marriage. Please bestow wisdom upon my husband. Free his mind from negative thoughts. Make him think and do what is right. Let him take the path of righteousness, and let him know your ways. I pray this in the name of Jesus, our Lord. Amen.

2. Pray for repentance

Your husband strayed from God before he became distant from you and left. He is under attack by the enemy and may have fallen into the pit of Satan. He may have believed Satan’s lies and was deceived. In the book of John 4:4-42 (NIV), we are presented with the account of a Samaritan woman who came across Jesus. Jesus told her the truth. The woman at the well believed Jesus and realized her faults when she encountered Him. She had lived a sinful life and did not see a way out or had a hard time changing her ways until she met Jesus. Your husband may be nursing sin in his heart; that is why he left you. Pray to God for your husband to have an encounter with Jesus, just like the woman at the well. Ask God for your spouse to come to his senses and repent. You may pray like this:

Dear Lord God,

You are merciful, and you accept us every time we come back to you. Thank you for being gracious. Please have my husband return to you and then to me. Let him reflect on his life and what he needs to do. Restore him, O Lord. I ask this in the mighty name of Jesus. Amen.

3. Pray for love

A wife should want her husband to always love her. However, there are times when a husband’s love may be lessened or diminished by some circumstances or factors, such as stress, unmet expectations, mistakes, third parties, and more. When these factors are not properly dealt with, a husband may choose to simply let go of the relationship and leave his wife. Paul defines love in 1 Corinthians 13:4-8 (NIV) as a love that can be between a husband and his wife. Pray for your husband’s love to be rekindled. Ask God for the love of your spouse to be renewed. 4. Pray for good communication

When a husband chooses to leave his wife, one reason may be the lack of good communication in their marriage. Reflect and check your communication before your husband leaves you. There may have been red flags that you both missed. Understand that communication is of high importance in any marriage. We are reminded by James in ( My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry, James 1:19 (NIV) that we should not be careless with our communication, and this includes communicating with our spouse. If you have shortcomings in communicating with your husband, you should pray and work on altering them. On the other hand, if your husband has fallen short, then pray for him to improve his communication and make the necessary changes. You can ask God in this way:

Dear God,

You communicate with us in many ways that are very effective. Please help me and my husband change our ineffective ways of communicating and help us reach out, understand, and communicate as healthy couples should. I pray this in the name of Jesus. Amen.

5. Pray for forgiveness

Whether you or your husband made a mistake in your relationship, be open to forgiving or being forgiven if you are the one who made a mistake. When the wife of Hosea sinned against him, God commanded Hosea to take his wife back. In the same way, God expects husbands and wives to forgive each other. This was also conveyed by the apostle Paul in ( Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you. Ephesians 4:32 (NIV) when he addressed the early Christians. When you forgive your husband, it allows him to return to you. When you forgive your spouse, you open the door to reconciliation.
