Prayer for an Unforgiving Husband

As Christians, we know that forgiving others is a must. After all, God won’t forgive us if we don’t forgive those who have sinned against us. Jesus said in Matthew 6:15, But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses. Unforgiveness can hinder so many blessings in our lives, and having a husband whom you dearly loved with an unforgiving heart towards someone can be challenging to deal with as a wife. Your prayers for your husband are so important as a wife. God designed marriage such that when one is weak, the other can lift their partner up in deeds, words, and prayers. How do I deal with an unforgiving husband?    

Unforgiveness can block blessings and breakthroughs, not just in one’s life but even in a home. The whole family can be affected when a family member has doorways for the enemy to walk through in their life. Having an unforgiving husband can be challenging, but it isn’t something worth magnifying. After all, the Lord said, “Behold, I am the Lord, the God of all flesh: is there anything too hard for me?” (Jeremiah 32:27).

To deal with an unforgiving husband, be the wife whom God called you to be–honoring, submissive, respectful of your husband, and willing to manifest the fruit of the Spirit in your life. It isn’t your job to fix your husband’s issues or change his heart and make it right for him. That is the Holy Spirit’s job in his life. You can assist him in overcoming unforgiveness by sharing with him preachings, teachings, or sermons about unforgiveness, God’s mercy, and God’s love, all of which will help him change how he thinks about his unforgiveness. You must continuously pray for him, but you can’t force or condemn him if he isn’t ready to forgive.

If he isn’t forgiving towards you, continue to show him kindness, mercy, and love, as only the goodness of God can cause him to repent. Resist succumbing to his pride, which may cause you to respond in anger, but instead continue to be gentle and Christlike towards your husband, especially in this season of his life.

Moreover, if you are part of a local church, you may share the matter with a trusted and spirit-filled pastor or leader who can help you pray for your husband. If your spouse permits it, you can take him to the deliverance ministry team or to a group of believers in Christ who operate in the gifts of the Spirit, as that may help him with his personal issues.

Seek wisdom from the Holy Spirit, who does not know defeat. When you walk with the Holy Spirit and ask His help, He will never fail to show up powerfully in your life.

Will prayer work for an unforgiving husband?

Prayers are our connection to a powerful and loving Heavenly Father who listens to the tears and cries of His beloved children. When you pray to God, no matter what your issues in life may be, He is always there, listening to every word and every beat of your heart because you are His child. 1 John 5:14 says, And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask anything according to his will, he heareth us.

Prayers are powerful and will work on anything, including an unforgiving husband because we have an amazing, gracious Heavenly Father who answers prayers according to His will. Praying for your husband to be released of unforgiveness is God’s will. As you pray without ceasing for your husband, the Lord will work in his life in powerful ways, but you must be patient. We know that God works according to His own timeline, and He knows when our hearts are ready. Sometimes, some people take longer to process within Him. You must be patient and continuously loving and kind towards your husband, who may be going through inner healing from the Lord so that he can fully release forgiveness and show mercy to those who have done him wrong.

As you continuously work on your personal intimacy with God, meditating on His Word day and night, and being the Spirit-filled wife God made for your husband in both prayers and deeds, you will soon see God’s hand moving powerfully in your partner’s life. The Holy Spirit is always with you, helping you and empowering you in all situations of your life.
