It is a powerful thing for a couple to pray together. Jesus said in Matthew 18:19-20 that when two or more are gathered in His name, His presence is there among them. The agreement made by a husband and wife in prayer can impact and change lives because of the promise of Jesus’ presence within them, and the Father does whatever they ask for in Jesus’ name. What does a couple pray for? You can pray for many things as a couple, such as your business, your careers and jobs, your finances, your marriage, your children’s future, education, and any other things that may concern you and your spouse. For instance, when you and your spouse want to pray for your children’s future; you can pray in this manner:
Heavenly Father, we lift our child/children before you. We praise You and thank You for blessing us with wonderful children who are godly and God-fearing. Thank You for being faithful to them, and always protecting and guiding them wherever they go. We know that their future ahead is bright and full of hope in Christ Jesus. We surrender them to You, and we fully trust You with their lives, in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Another way you can pray as a couple is by declaring and praying the Scriptures. As you both spend time together reading the Word of God, the Holy Spirit guides you into the Word and helps you in the things for which you need to pray. Many Scriptures declare God’s promises, protection, abundance, as well as anointing believers to do Kingdom works that bless God and advance His Kingdom on Earth. For instance, here is a Scripture prayer for God’s protection based on Psalm 91, which you can declare over your family:
Heavenly Father, thank You for keeping and protecting my family from harm. You are our refuge and fortress alone, and we trust in You. Thank You for saving our family from all evil, and may no sicknesses come near our household. You keep us safe under Your wings, and You cover us with Your feathers. You send us Your holy angels to protect us and watch over us, and we praise You and glorify Your name in Jesus. Amen.

How do couples pray?
As a couple, you should both find time where you can come into your prayer closet and pray together as husband and wife, mother and father. The husband can lead his wife into prayer, or it can be interchangeable, depending on your particular agreement. Either way, you both simply talk to God as you would to a Friend whom you deeply trust. It is simply a way of having a good conversation with God and relating to Him.
Sometimes, couples may also opt to read and meditate on the Word of God together as a form of prayer. When you allow the Holy Spirit to lead you both in your prayer time, it can be an amazing experience to see Him move within your lives in unity. He speaks to your husband or your wife, and also confirms your spirit. It is important that you both develop an intimate relationship with the Holy Spirit and ask God to give you both clarity and sensitivity to His voice and His guidance because, as believers, we don’t act according to our will, but according to the will of the Father, just like Jesus (see John 6:38).
Moreover, as you both pray, you can hold hands while closing your eyes, or you can pray in whatever way is most comfortable to get into the presence of God. It is important that you set aside all distractions, and that you both commit to pray at the time you have chosen and to give God all your attention, focus, and energy. Your prayers as a couple are so powerful that they move the direction of the Earth and align it with heaven.
What Happens When Couples Pray together?
When couples pray together, demons flee and tremble because Jesus’ presence is in their midst, and God’s holy angels will execute the will of God on Earth on behalf of the couples’ prayer. Jesus said, “Again I say unto you, that if two of you shall agree on earth as touching anything that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven. For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them” (Matthew 18:19-20).
That’s why every couple needs to maintain a lifestyle of prayer; they must be disciplined and consistent in their prayer lives because God takes every prayer seriously, which is such a powerful thing. It can change the course of the world and lead to a godly generation that can impact and change lives. More importantly, it can win souls back to the LORD Jesus Christ and take them home to their Father’s embrace.
What does the Bible say about couples praying together?
The Bible makes many promises about people praying together, whether as a couple, as a family, as friends, as a church, and so on. There’s greater anointing power when two or more are gathered to pray together in the name of Jesus. Here are some Bible verses about what happens when you pray together as a couple:
1. Psalm 133:1-3
Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity! It is like the precious ointment upon the head, that ran down upon the beard, even Aaron’s beard: that went down to the skirts of his garments; As the dew of Hermon, and as the dew that descended upon the mountains of Zion: for there the Lord commanded the blessing, even life forevermore.
2. 1 Timothy 2:1-2
I exhort therefore that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.
3. Hebrews 10:24-25
And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works: Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.
4. Matthew 18:19-20
Again I say unto you, that if two of you shall agree on earth as touching anything that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father, which is in heaven. For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.
5. Romans 12:4-5
For as we have many members in one body, and all members have not the same office: So we, being many, are one body in Christ, and every one members one of another.

6. 1 Corinthians 12:26-27
And whether one member suffer, all the members suffer with it; or one member be honored, all the members rejoice with it. Now ye are the body of Christ, and members in particular.

7. Matthew 18:18
Verily I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever ye shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.

8. 1 Peter 3:8-9
Finally, be ye all of one mind, having compassion one of another, love as brethren, be pitiful, be courteous: Not rendering evil for evil, or railing for railing: but contrariwise blessing; knowing that ye are thereunto called, that ye should inherit a blessing.
Your prayers as a couple are powerful. Stay in unity, be consistent and persistent in your prayer lives, and watch how God moves in every area of your lives as you come together in the name of Jesus.
