How To Pray For A Lazy Husband

As a wife with a lazy husband, it can be challenging, disappointing, and triggering within the marriage. Know that laziness can result from a lack of passion, motivation, sense of direction, and purpose in life. If your husband has become lazy over the course of your marriage, there might be a deeper root that you must pray and communicate with each other about. You must always see your husband according to his new nature in Christ and not speak on what’s negative about him, even as you pray for him. Here is how to pray for a Lazy Husband:

Heavenly Father, thank You for the life of my husband. You have blessed him with hands and feet that prosper when he works. He is a man of diligence, discipline, and passion. The Holy Spirit empowers him to live a purposeful life in Christ Jesus. He is powerful and effective in everything he does, especially in advancing Your kingdom and impacting his family through Christlikeness. This is who he truly is in Christ Jesus, and I praise and glorify You for it, in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Moreover, when your husband shows laziness at home but is otherwise diligent when it comes to his jobs and in providing for the family’s needs, it can simply indicate that the home is simply a place where he can rest. You may want to communicate and ask your husband how things are at work. Stress at work can be a factor for being a couch potato all night or wanting to nap all the time. You can give grace to your husband, who may not help you with household chores or tend to your kids, but is otherwise working to provide for the family through his job.

If you are uncomfortable with that setup, you can gently take time together and communicate your expectations of him when he’s at home. You can tell him how you feel when he does not help, but assure and affirm him by showing appreciation for his hard work in providing for the family.

How to deal with a lazy husband?

There are many causes as to why a husband may be lazy. As mentioned earlier, he may be going through some personal issues that have caused him to be unmotivated and lazy; he may also be tired from work and may find home to be the only place where he can be himself and be lazy. Or perhaps he was already like that before you married him and realized it was causing a problem in your marriage.

To deal with a lazy husband, continue to do what the Bible says regarding how a wife should treat her husband—with honor, respect and submission, as you do unto the Lord (see Ephesians 5:23-33). He is the man you chose to marry, taking on both his strengths and weaknesses. Your respect and honor for him as a woman of faith will soon win him to the Lord, and he may be convicted of his laziness as your husband.

As you continuously be the woman your husband married, taking care of his needs and the family, honoring him, and praying for him, the Lord’s presence will continue to wrap around your home, and the victory of Christ will continue to reign in your marriage. Don’t give in to your flesh and the schemes of the devil towards your marriage, as there is always hope in Christ Jesus.

How do I pray for a difficult husband?

It can be tempting to criticize, say negative things, or even curse out of disappointment when your husband doesn’t do what he’s supposed to do or when he seems unmotivated to fulfill his current tasks, especially when it comes to finding a job to provide for the family or helping at home. Marriage can be difficult with a husband that’s not fulfilling his purpose.

To pray for a difficult husband with a laziness problem, you can declare the Scripture promises of God for strength, hope, and encouragement. As you pray in partnership with the Holy Spirit, if your husband is tired, then you can declare Scriptures about strength, such as Isaiah 40:31,  But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary, and they shall walk, and not faint.

You can pray this Scripture for your husband in this manner:

Thank You, Lord, for Renewing my husband’s strength daily. He mounts up with wings like the eagle, and he shall complete all his tasks and won’t be weary. Though he works daily and manages to help at home, his strength doesn’t fail. You give him the strength to do all things in Christ Jesus’ name. Amen.

The more you pray for your husband and declare his true nature in Christ, the more it will manifest in his life. After all, the tongue has the power of life and death according to God’s Word (see Proverbs 18:21). You may not instantly see the impact, but things are immediately working in the spiritual realm because we are spiritual beings.

Your goal must always be to restore your husband’s true purpose and identity in Christ and speak words that give life, such that you will eat the fruit of your words someday.

May the Lord bless and deliver your husband and empower your marriage in Jesus’ name.
